SCOPE OF ROLE:

Performs complex dimensional inspection on material and components to assure compliance with drawings or specifications. Uses inspection devices and testing equipment and follows general inspection procedures. Develops and documents inspection methods and sampling plans. Coordinates activities of receiving inspection personnel engaged in inspecting and testing of purchased material and fabricated components to applicable specifications and assures the correct documentation of acceptance or rejections. Performs receiving inspection systems troubleshooting. Trains new employees and aids employees with questions regarding work standards. Ensures that correct methods and processes are used by receiving inspection personnel. Ensures that receiving inspection personnel comply with relevant receiving inspection procedures.

  • Coordinates and schedules the activities of receiving inspection personnel.

  • Ensures that receiving inspection personnel perform work in accordance with applicable procedures, methods, and processes.

  • Specifies and assists in procuring required inspection instruments.

  • Performs inspection and test on in-process assemblies according to blueprints, specifications and documents.

  • Confers with technical personnel and department supervisors to report and resolve inspection and testing problems.

  • Makes equipment set-ups to perform appropriate measurements.

  • Chairs, schedules, and documents material review board meetings.

  • Completes all documentation necessary for and relevant to the receiving inspection activities.

  • Assists receiving inspectors in resolving technical problems.

  • Performs necessary training of all personnel.

  • Complies with health and safety policies and procedures.

  • Supports company values including ethical conduct and high integrity in all actions.

  • Transports materials between production and storage areas.

  • Keeps work area and received material organized maintaining good inventory control practices.

  • Assists with physical inventory counting within Q.C. area.

  • Inspection of DPSS optical components (Back up required by ISO Certification)

EDUCATION/TRAINING/WORK RELATED EXPERIENCE:

  • Associate degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school.

  • A minimum of five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: None

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES :

  • High degree of work accuracy required.

  • Thorough knowledge of receiving inspection process and measurement tools.

  • Proficient with Microsoft software, excel and word.

  • Good interpersonal skills and communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Excellent organizational skills.

  • Very good problem-solving skills.

  • Proficient in geometric tolerance symbology.
