SCOPE OF ROLE:

The Production Leader supports the Director of Manufacturing with responsibility for all aspects of manufacturing within the assigned business lines. Assigned business lines may include any or all of the following: Lenses, Lasers, Cameras, Systems and Optical Filters. Clear, goal-aligned assignments will be made based on business priorities and need. This position will manage both the team and the capacity allocations for the assigned lines of business. The Production Leader is responsible for achieving business goals related to on-time delivery, quality, cost of goods, and for meeting sales commitments for the assigned business lines.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Lead, develop, and coach a manufacturing organization of 70+ employees including a combination of Direct Labor (DL) and Indirect Labor (IDL) employees. The operation runs 7 days / week x 21 hour / day.

  • Lead the manufacturing operations to achieve department goals for product quality, on-time delivery, and manufacturing profit and productivity.

  • Contribute to development and implementation of Annual Operating Plan (AOP).

  • Work with continuous improvement teams to drive LEAN manufacturing processes and principals throughout the separate departments.

  • Partner with the Supply Chain team to implement effective inventory management practices to reduce overall costs, improve product quality and assure stable sources of supply.

  • Drive ERP improvements and leverage functionality to support capacity planning.

  • Lead effective efforts to restructure/eliminate ergonomically adverse manufacturing procedures.

  • Facilitate preventive maintenance program for equipment and tooling in support of process and product excellence.

  • Drive safety throughout Manufacturing and identify proactive plans to prevent accidents.

  • Develop a talent development and acquisition strategy to continuously improve the manufacturing function.

  • This position is a site-based role.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • B.S. Degree required; advanced degree highly preferred.

  • 5 or more years in a related manufacturing operations management position with progressively more responsibility.

  • Green Belt level Six Sigma preferred.

  • Ability to gather, validate and analyze production data to develop evidence-based process improvement proposals.

  • Demonstrated ability to understand, plan and execute change in manufacturing structure, systems and philosophy.

  • Must be detail-oriented while able to conceive, implement and operate systems and processes.

  • Demonstrated ability to achieve results in a cooperative, cross-functional, matrixed environment.

  • Demonstrated effectiveness in motivating and executing against objectives, policies, and procedures through team, including non-exempt associates.

  • Strong operational excellence background required

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

  • Builds trust and credibility by leading by example.

  • Creates regular communications with the value stream and vertical businesses. Provides clear direction, regular updates on events/decisions, and ensures accountability for achieving and sustaining results.

  • Analytical thinker with excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt Teams and Tools to support evolving customer needs, priorities, and deadlines in a rapidly changing environment.

  • Requires influential leadership and assertiveness to interact with colleagues at all levels of the organization, across businesses.

  • Strong continuous improvement background with knowledge of industry accepted lean tools such as 5S, kaizen, Value Stream Mapping, visual controls, Kanban, daily management systems, standard work, and takt time/cycle time analysis.

  • Outstanding demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.

  • Good ability to use PC & ERP tools for communication, data extraction, and analysis. JDE knowledge a plus.

  • Ability to independently perform financial and operational assessments of new projects or systems and current activities using PC based software.

  • Previous experience organizing and driving effective daily management meetings through an organization

  • Must be able to travel to customer/supplier sites on occasion throughout the world. Estimate 5-10% travel
