IDEX Health & Science- Rochester, Filters/Semrock, group – based in Rochester, New York – develops and manufactures high-performance optical thin-film filters that set the standard for biotech and analytical instrumentation. The Semrock/Filters group is a rapidly growing, with revenue from both the volume OEM sales of tailored products and from the sales of standard catalog products to end-users. Semrock’s optical filter products are set apart by their state-of-the-art performance and reliability. Major markets include optical filters for fluorescence imaging and measurement systems, for Raman spectroscopy systems, and for laser-based analytical instrumentation.


In support of its expanding business, IDEX Health and Science (IH&S) is looking for a well-rounded person to join its manufacturing team in the role of Procurement Specialist. The Procurement Specialist will be responsible for complex procurement, planning, and scheduling activities associated with IH&S complex systems build demand. This person will be required to interface closely with customer teams in a solutions-oriented partnership to deliver a competitive performance advance with accelerated time to market and Supply Chain reliability.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Analyze, calculate and monitor inventory levels on non-production materials and supplies.

  • Obtain bids and assist in the selection of appropriate vendors for indirect supplies and services

  • Prepare and issue purchase orders in accordance with established procedures for non-production materials, supplies and services required by a multi-site facility.

  • Schedule and expedite deliveries to ensure production kan-bans are met.

  • Act as point of contact for all MRO vendor issues, including short shipments, damages in shipment and purchase price variances.

  • Issue monthly cost reduction reports.

  • Communicate issues of concern and updates to the Materials Manager and Production Supervisors.

  • Responsible for processing all approved purchase requisitions, as well as daily material requirement demands.

  • Willingness to cross-train and support various supply chain and logistics roles as back-up when needed.

  • Participates in physical inventories and cycle count programs per annual schedule

  • Flexibility to meet continuous changing priorities & challenges

  • Detailed oriented person with very strong organizational skills and an excellent work ethic.

  • Ability to work independently and be a self-starter

  • Balancing and prioritizing multiple simultaneous requests

  • Must possess strong Excel ability and skills

Education / Experience:

  • Two-year college degree or equivalent experience

  • Previous MRO purchasing experience / Proven ability to source using a commodity based strategy

  • APIC’s certification (Preferred)
