IDEX Mechanical Engineer in West Henrietta, New York

Responsible for leading the mechanical design and validation of high precision opto-mechanical systems. Communicates and documents mechanical engineering topics at all stages of a design-for-manufacturing cycle.

Collaborates with engineering, manufacturing, and commercial teams to implement practical solutions to challenging problems.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES Other duties may be assigned.

  • Lead engineering efforts pertaining to the design of precision opto-mechanical systems.

  • Collaborate with optical designers to provide feedback on mechanical viability of designs.

  • Fluently utilize mechanical CAD software such as SolidWorks.

  • Analyze and assign mechanical tolerances, incorporating manufacturing and optical considerations.

  • Experience successfully completing DFMEA’s and implementing DFM and DFC principles.

  • Working knowledge of GD&T per ISO standards.

  • Ability to generate complete engineering fabrication documentation & bill of materials.

  • Support mechanical designs through manufacturing, assembly and test.

  • Communicate effectively through email, presentations and technical documents.

  • Supports company values including ethical conduct and high integrity in all actions.


  • Hands-on experience with opto-mechanical system design and alignment

  • Familiarity with kinematic mounting schemes and exact constraint principles

  • Working knowledge of FEA (SolidWorks Simulation, ANSYS, etc.)

  • Understanding of basic machining and fabrication processes.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks both of similar and varying priority.

  • Creation of technical reports and presentations.

  • Ability to work with assembly and test technicians to develop and debug procedures.

  • Comply with the Clean Room Protocol when entering a clean room environment.

Required Education/Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering degree.

  • M.S. or Ph.D. is considered a plus.

  • Minimum of 5 years experience (10+ years preferred) in mechanical engineering or a related engineering field.

  • 3+ years experience leading engineering design and/or manufacturing initiatives.
