The Manufacturing Engineer - Assembly is critical in ensuring key metrics are achieved in the assembly area. The Manufacturing Engineer's role encompasses:

Process Leadership

  • Follow the Advanced Product Quality Planning framework to coordinate the manufacturing launch of new and revised products including establishing introduction plans, goals, training of team members and evaluating results. Understand process and measurement capability and advise of issues when necessary.

  • Assess and manage risks using the failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) framework ensuring that improvement plans are created, and process improvements implemented. Ensure critical and Key characteristics are known and monitored at the different stages of new product introduction.

  • Provide and share expert process knowledge and technical skills so that the teams can achieve consistent and sustained manufacturing efficiency and process improvement.

  • Project and display an engaging, empowering and encouraging leadership style. Lead process improvement with direction and vision, continually re-enforcing process standardization in any form. Lead the production technicians with focus and consistency displaying a challenging and questioning approach to correct variation from standard. Become the process “hub” generating varying inputs, to develop focus and direction promoting a “one team, one vision” approach. Be a focal part of Production Cell Meetings and develop clear and effective communication tools to advance employee engagement.

Process Development and Control

  • Provide support and direction to the production technicians, facilitating directional change with team and supervisor involvement, and process improvement suggestions that display clear business or process benefit. Develop and maintain a system of “structured” improvement capture, to promote and incorporate business benefit analysis. Continually use and promote the importance of utilizing data to identify opportunities for process change, developing varied tools for data capture and team involvement from all areas. Promote and produce templates for problem solving opportunities with the production technicians, sharing continuous Improvement knowledge, skills and techniques to continually increase the levels of CI understanding with the production technicians.

  • implementation of optimal, cost-effective manufacturing processes and methods in accordance with product specifications and quality standards; recommends and implements improvements to production processes, methods and controls; coordinates manufacturing launch for new or revised products. Ensure all site processes exhibit consistent and aligned compliance to all agreed formats.

  • Develop and maintain a clear and effective process audit process. Involve team members in process auditing development and be transparent with results achieved and areas for improvement. Educate, always involve and reinforce process standardization and lead by personally promoting process excellence. Use structured communication opportunities to re-affirm or communicate process change.

Continuous Improvement

  • Lead and participate in CI projects, and in conjunction with project team members, clearly communicate project outcomes so that the production technicians can implement and sustain process and operational changes.

  • Attend each CI workshop as either facilitator or team member; taking ownership of all team inputs as required. Lead the implementation of all CI actions by area, communicating results, allocating and requesting resources, or determining further expectations. Support the team members with consistent, clear and engaging communication of project outcomes and supply consistency of audit systems to maintain results.

Process Industrialization

  • Working with the Production teams to fully industrialize new products, materials and processes. Using proven structured industrialization and transfer techniques work with multifunctional teams to remove risk and ensure product, processes and materials are production ready. Establish and instill standards within the team to measure acceptable levels of quality, yield and productivity to ensure a right first-time release to manufacturing. During the release or transfer of processes you will use your 6 Sigma knowledge to develop systems that predict failure, show statistical stability and repeatability to allow for data driven decision making.

  • Ensure lessons learned from all aspects of the role are effectively communicated to the relevant areas of the business to ensure companywide process improvements and known, understood and acted upon. For this role there will be a close working relationship with the Product Management Department (customer and supplier liaison) and Manufacturing.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Needed

  • A STEM Engineering Degree Required (Preferred Majors: Mechanical, Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering)

  • Proven Knowledge of:

  • New Product Introduction processes

  • Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP)

  • Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA) for Risk Management

  • Control Plans

  • Measurement System Analysis (MSA)

  • Statistical Process Control (SPC)

  • First Article Inspection Reports

  • Six Sigma & Lean practices

  • Competent in Project Management

  • Ability to implement equipment & procedures necessary to assemble, test, and contribute to the manufacture of high-performance imaging system

  • Problem solving ability using the 8D Methodology

  • Self-driven to learn new skills and take on responsibilities

  • Proficient in the use of computer systems (strong Microsoft Office, ERP/MRP skills required)

  • Preferred: Project Planning Software, CAD or Solidworks experience

  • Strong communication skills

  • Possess strong problem-solving skills with an attention to detail

  • Highly analytical mindset with the ability to visualize complex data sets
