IDEX Mechanical Designer in Waterloo, Ontario

Position Summary

The mission of the Mechanical Designer on the Powder Team is to work closely with the Engineering, Sales, and Production teams to ensure prompt, accurate completion of 3D Solid Models, drawing packages, Bills of Materials, and related engineering documents.

Essential Functions

  • Designs customized hardware to meet customers’ needs based on the company’s requirements

  • Generates accurate models and detailed drawings using Solidworks and AutoCAD

  • Ensures drawings, models, and Bills of Materials are turned over to manufacturing on-time with high accuracy.

  • Works collaboratively with marketing and sales to meet customer / market design requirements

  • Works closely with vendors and manufacturing to assemble and test equipment

  • Ensures that all projects are accurately documented in timely fashion

  • Other duties, as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

EDUCATION

  • Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field.

EXPERIENCE

  • 3 to 5 years of professional mechanical design experience

  • Experience in a manufacturing environment.

COMPETENCIES

  • Demonstrated ability and experience working in a dynamic, deadline-oriented environment is required.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication and organizational skills are required.

  • Proficiency with 3D Solidworks and 2D CAD

  • Ability to design and document mechanical elements and integrate into final assemblies and systems

  • Ability to execute engineering change orders and manage related tasks

  • Able to generate and compile engineering documents and turn over packages, design qualifications, IQOQ, Traceability matrices, manuals etc.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects

  • Ability to utilize logic, along with mechanical experience to solve problems

  • Should be familiar with document vaulting programs

  • Knowledge of materials, mechanisms and pneumatics

  • Good written and oral communication skills

  • A Customer Obsession and Continuous Improvement Mindset is required.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is required.

  • Familiarity with ERP Systems strongly desired.

Physical Environment and Environmental Factors

  • Regularly works in an office setting.

  • Frequently required to stand, sit, talk, and hear

  • Must be able to work in front of a computer for a large portion of the day

  • May occasionally lift up to 20lbs
