The Shipping and Receiving Clerk works as part of a team to verify and maintain records on incoming and outgoing shipments. The role is responsible for preparing items for shipment, assembling, addressing, and arranging for shipment via carrier or general mail. This role is also responsible for receiving, unpacking, verifying, and recording incoming materials and arranging for transportation. The Shipping/Receiving Clerk is responsible for:

  • Completes duties and tasks required for compliance as required by the U.S Customs and Border Protection and the U.S. census regulations.

  • Packages customer orders in a manner to prevent damage in transit and confirms the accuracy of orders by examining shipment contents and comparing against records such as manifests, invoices, or work orders to verify accuracy.

  • Receive goods from shipping partners, unpack and store customer-supplied goods, and check order quantities against packing slips, work orders, or other materials.

  • Record shipment data, such as weight, charges, damages, or discrepancies for reporting, accounting, or recordkeeping purposes.

  • Communicates with internal and external representatives to rectify problems, such as damages, shortages, or nonconformance to specifications.

  • Pack, seal, label, and apply postage to prepare materials for shipping.

  • Accurately perform required inventory transactions in the Material Resource Planning program.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.


  • Clerical – Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as managing electronic and mail files and records and other office procedures and terminology.

  • Production and Processing – Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.

  • Problem Sensitivity and Critical Thinking – The ability to determine when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. Use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.

  • Information Ordering – The ability to arrange things or actions in a certain order or pattern according to a specific rule or set of rules (e.g., patterns of numbers, letters, words, pictures, mathematical operations).

  • Communication – The ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand and listen to and understand the information and ideas presented. Gives full attention to what other people are saying, takes time to understand the points being made, asks questions as appropriate, and does not interrupt at inappropriate times.


  • Use safety equipment such as steel-toed shoes, safety glasses, and gloves for material handling.

  • Frequent standing and moving about in a production facility.

  • Ability to transport up to 50 lbs.

  • Visual acuity for close detail work.

  • Ability to move freely within a production facility.


  • High School Diploma plus at least three years of Shipping and/or Receiving experience with international shipping experience is highly preferred.

  • Ability to safely operate a forklift and other material handling equipment

  • Practical knowledge and use of Microsoft Office Suite and the use of Material Resource Planning software required.

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States and have lawful access to controlled technology as required for this position.
