Oversees and coordinates the Planning Department. Responsible for providing exceptional customer service in the development of schedules and plans for the Operations area. Manages staff that monitors the movement of material through the factory, establishes master production schedules and reviews/advises on all factors which affect production schedules. The Planning Manager focuses on alignment of all Planning tools to ensure accuracy and efficiency in meeting all business metrics.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Oversees both Finished Goods and Component level Kanban systems, minimizing inventory and transactional costs and improving overall factory efficiencies
Interfaces with Sales to provide feedback on forecasts on Finished Goods Kanban parts (top level assemblies)
Manages the development and execution of MRP generated schedules; reviews schedules with Master Scheduler to determine and arrange priorities and scheduling sequences
Interfaces with the Operations Management team in keeping the factory workload level loaded
Maintains the overall backlog system, maintaining clear and accurate feedback on ship dates and shortages of both internally manufactured and purchased components
Acts as the primary reporting for corporate planning metrics, including but not limited to On Time Delivery, forecasted deliveries, Cycle Count Accuracy and overall factory performance metrics. Using these metrics, provides input to management regarding problems such as shortages, process changes, and work-flow backlog
Owns the overall cycle count process and coordinates Operations portion of the physical inventory process
Investigates cost savings opportunities in production and the procurement of material to support production
Utilizes Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing tools to reduce process variation, eliminate non-value-added activities and defects and improve customer satisfaction.
Owns the Sales and Operations pattern build planning process
Administers the ERP system generated forecasts; identifies trends in the Forecast Consumption periods and communicates gaps and actions required to Sales and Customer Service
Owns the overall structure of the Master Data planning ERP/MRP system and inputs
Maintains all factory workday and Forecast Consumption calendars within the ERP system
Acts as the Operations stakeholder in Make/Buy decisions
Maintains the 80/20 structure within the ERP/MRP system
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
The incumbent should be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, freely move about the office and shop floor, write by hand and keyboard, and be able to use voice communications tools. Visual acuity is needed for close detail work and computer use.
QUALIFICATIONS (Education / training / experience / eligibility)
Bachelor's Degree in Production Control, Business Management or closely related field
Minimum 5-year experience as a Planner in a manufacturing environment
Minimum 3-year experience in Management or Supervisor role
Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of applications
Must be able to read and understand production drawings and material requirements
Thorough understanding of MRP logic and inventory strategies
APICS CPIM preferred.
Fundamental PC database knowledge
Experience with Oracle® JD Edwards software preferred
Must have Authorization to work in the United States and be able to have lawful access to controlled technology as required for this position.
