IDEX Electrical Systems Engineer in Rohnert Park, California

Position/Title: Electrical Engineer

Location: Rohnert Park, CA or remote

Bring your professional electronic engineering and development background and become part of a group dedicated to providing our customers with novel fluidic solutions. We are looking for a dynamic, self-motivated individual to take an important role in our product development group.

The right individual will join a team that supplies our life science instrumentation customers with innovative fluid handling products in support of their increasingly complex instrumentation needs. You will have a chance to showcase your expertise in electronic engineering and mechatronics as well as your strengths in component engineering.

As part of the design team, this role will initially support current product offerings in effort to overcome current supply chain dynamics and will evolve into a more design focused role as the individual gains exposure to our products and processes.

  • Participate in product development from concept to production and provide after-release support for the life of the product

  • Design, fabricate, modify, and validate electronic circuitry with emphasis on driving and controlling stepper motors to satisfy product specifications, with an emphasis on low-cost quality design

  • Component engineering – research, specify, qualify, and approve electronic components

  • Modify existing electronic designs and create engineering change requests

  • Update product documentation and manufacturing file packages

  • Support the design of electronic test equipment and automated test stands

  • Work with our firmware and software engineers to achieve the most optimal system design

  • Interface directly with customers and suppliers to discuss product specifications and provide technical support

  • Support our engineering and operations teams with prototyping and troubleshooting of electronic circuits

  • Advise fellow teammates on hardware and system issues

  • Operate under minimal supervision and coordinate tasks to balance competing priorities

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering

  • At least three years of applicable engineering experience focusing on electronic hardware development

  • General electronic engineering expertise in analog and digital hardware design

  • Good component engineering skills

  • Experience using ECAD tools (Altium Designer highly preferred)

  • Ability to design and implement complex hardware with low-cost quality solutions

  • Proficiency using oscilloscopes, in-circuit debuggers, and other electronic test equipment

  • Strong interpersonal skills and excellent communication skills

  • Good prototyping and troubleshooting skills

  • Ability to work independently and in a distributed team

Desired qualifications:

  • Experience with stepper motor control and motion control

  • Experience with communication protocols (I2C, SPI, RS-232, RS-485, USB, CAN)

  • Good understanding of the latest ARM Cortex-M architectures and 8-bit Microchip PIC microcontrollers

  • Experience designing to UL, CE, FCC, etc. regulatory requirements

  • Analog and digital sensor interfacing and signal processing

  • Proficiency in embedded C code development

  • Experience working directly with customers to integrate devices in their systems

  • Experience with embedded development tool chains (IDE, compilers, linkers, Git)
