This opening is for a highly experienced and self-motivated individual to lead a geographically-dispersed team of engineers and scientists. This team is diverse, applications-based, and customer-facing. The application research team works in close conjunction with the product development team and helps to develop the latest-generation fluidics instrumentation for the In-Vitro Diagnostic and Biotechnology markets.
This role will directly manage a team that explores how the breadth of our products work, how our technologies work together, and how they fulfill customers’ applications needs. This team will also conduct targeted customer interfacing to support early opportunity definition. You will collaborate with Sales, Product Management, Engineering, Customer Support, Quality, and Operations to create growth in our market.
Your team is responsible for developing application-relevant models, tests, and design input to provide critical knowledge for customer solutions. You will oversee new product development challenges and participate in the group’s troubleshooting and root cause analyses.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Champion employee development and be a role-model leader and team builder.
Translate customer needs into the Strategic and Annual Operating Plan processes.
Form technical strategies to support future project and product needs.
Grow the organization’s knowledge (interpret complex technical concepts and present them to others in a clear, concise and understandable manner).
Collaborate with customers to gather insights (VOC), address concerns, and present data and results.
Identify and protect intellectual property via patents and trade secrets.
Drive test method development that aligns with customer and market applications.
Address technical challenges and applications understanding in a hands-on way when needed.
Plan team projects and resources to support priorities effectively.
The position may involve 25-50% travel to support customers globally.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATION:
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering or science field and a minimum of 10+ years of industry experience in life sciences/Biotech. Or an advanced degree with a minimum of 7+ years of industry experience.
5+ years of managing an RD&E, applied technologies, or applications team with 5 or more people.
Successful history of product innovation, troubleshooting, and product development with a strong commercial focus.
Proven track record of building high performing teams. Personable and outgoing leader that can motivate and enthuse a team.
Past achievement in meeting or exceeding commercial management objectives on a consistent basis.
Experience as customer champion and devoted problem solver.
Strong experience in working with production and supply chain functions to drive optimal product design.
A solid understanding of fluidics applications for biological analyses, such as Immunoassays, Hematology and associated sample preparation techniques is preferred.
Analytical thinker with ability to solve problems quickly and accurately to meet customer deadlines.
Strong collaborator with prior experience leading and managing change in a matrixed global organizational structure.
Highly motivated self-starter with a strong drive for results mindset.
Comfortable in a fast-paced “startup” environment with the ability to navigate cross-functional teams and deliver timely results.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong computer proficiency is a must with an emphasis on MS-Office applications.
DESIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATION:
Experience with managing Managers would be a plus.
Preferable experience from the IVD/biotech markets with an emphasis on fluidics instrumentation (fluidics subsystems, components, and controls).
