The Machine Shop Supervisor is a vital member of the AFS-OKC Operations leadership team and will integrate a newly acquired manufacturing operation into the business, including a physical move of equipment, hiring/training new team members. The Machine Shop Supervisor is responsible for providing direct management and overall leadership of the assigned team of machinists and welders, managing safety/regulatory requirements, production quality, delivery, inventory, and cost to meet customer expectations by utilizing the Daily Management process in a highly technical machining/fabrication environment. This role is also responsible for developing objectives, goals, and strategies to support the business direction and development and implementation of new products. This position requires collaboration with multiple business functions, including supply chain and commercial in order to balance priorities in a changing and flexible environment. Knowledge of continuous improvement and Lean tools will be a crucial part of successful problem solving, waste reduction, and driving productivity in production processes. The Machine Shop Supervisor is expected to be a servant leader by ensuring all needs are met, driving accountability, and building a cohesive team.


  • Assist Production planning in a high mix, low volume environment

  • Experience leading teams in highly skilled machining processes and welding

  • Servant leadership of direct labor employees, including accountability to performance standards, evaluating team needs and removing barriers for the team to meet targets

  • Ability to communicate clearly on business objectives down to an individual level and drive for results

  • Creating and managing workflow and work orders in an MRP system

  • Driving inventory control/accuracy through sound transactional processes and accountability to such

  • Arrange required maintenance and updates for all machining equipment

  • Utilize continuous improvement tools to reduce waste/costs while improving daily management processes and driving root cause analysis and action for SQDC KPI's

  • Effectively produce written documents such as production reports or procedures/ work instructions when necessary

  • Effectively produce verbal reports and presentations

  • Trend and track machining performance

  • Mentor and train of hourly employees including onboarding, training, compliance, and development of career ladder step progressions

  • Responsible for aiding in own self-development by being available and receptive to all training made possible by the company

  • Accountable for the contact between the team and external stakeholders, including commercial or engineering teams, to quickly communicate problems in delivery, quality or process flow

  • Integration of manufacturing facilities including system integration, equipment shut down and ramp-ups, and development of personnel to ensure customer delivery is met


  • Minimum 5 years of experience working with CNC machines including set ups required

  • Programming experience preferred

  • Demonstrated leadership experience or proven record of advancement as a Machinist

  • Successful track record of utilizing Continuous Improvement Methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, TOC) required

  • Experience with MRP systems, JD Edwards preferred

  • Understanding of ISO 9001 or QMS systems

  • Demonstrated Mechanical Aptitude

  • Ability to read/interpret engineering drawings

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel
