IDEX Electrical Engineer- Test in Ocala, Florida

This position requires support of validation testing of new and existing products across the Fire & Safety product line. The engineer will work with multiple engineering disciplines to ensure products meet functional and reliability requirements for mission-critical applications. The successful candidate will perform a combination of hands-on testing as well as trouble shooting, procedure development, quality, and project management activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Establish test plans to validate new/modified designs or benchmark existing designs.

  • Carry out testing activities which could include software functionality (embedded and customer-configured), electrical performance, and environmental testing.

  • Coordinate 3rd party compliance testing.

  • Develop and implement fixtures and test equipment to carry out product reliability testing and production testing.

  • Trouble shooting and problem solving of new and existing products (root cause analysis).

  • Interface with engineering, R&D, product management, quality, manufacturing, outside suppliers, and customers.

  • Analyze requirements and test results and propose solutions.

  • Research alternative methods, component substitutes, designs, processes, or materials (sustaining engineering support).

  • Respond to internal or external technical problems and pursue to resolution.

  • Produce documentation in the form of detailed technical reports as well as summary presentations including photos and graphical representation of data.

  • Generate novel and practical solutions to a variety of problems.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND REQUIRED ABILITIES:

  • Possess a working knowledge of automotive APQP requirements (DFMEA, DVPR, 8D, 3L5Y).

  • Ability to problem-solve and perform structured root cause analysis.

  • Possess a general knowledge of software development and methods of validating software functionality.

  • Familiar with electrical circuit design best practices

  • Familiar with ARM based microcontrollers.

  • Ability to interpret schematics and use laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, electrical transient generator, ESD test equipment, RF test equipment and more.

  • Circuit design experience with microprocessors, switching power supplies, analog signal conditioning, and DC motor drives.

  • Ability to analyze data and identify design or quality issues.

  • Accuracy, attention to detail, and excellent communications skills.

  • Superior ability to produce creative solutions in a fast paced, cross functional, multi-tasking environment.

  • Experience with the following technologies desirable: Wi-Fi, USB, NFC, J1939, CAN, RS-485, SAE, CE, wireless communications, high side and low side drivers

  • Experience with UL, FCC, e-Mark, LoRa product certification is a plus.

  • Altium Schematic Capture and PCB Layout Experience is a plus.

  • Embedded coding of test fixture experience is a plus.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or equivalent 4-year technical degree/experience with progressive varied engineering experience with an emphasis on product validation.

  • 10 years of experience in electronics design and validation

  • Experience with products used in automotive market containing electronics and software.

  • Experience in industrial products is a plus

  • Hands-on experience solving product issues with new and existing designs.

  • Multi-tasking and project management experience.

  • Experience analyzing data and calculating failure rates and statistical reliability performance.

  • Experience with problem solving tools such as a 3 Legged 5 Why and Root Cause Countermeasure.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • The employee is frequently required to walk and use hands to handle or feel. The employee is regularly required to stand; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to twenty-five pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.

  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; outside weather conditions and vibration. Some testing may involve stationary vehicles such as a Fire Truck or Ambulance. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate typical of an office with occasional work requiring hearing and eye protection.
