Position/Title: Senior Level Design Engineer

Location: Middleborough, MA (Preferred)

We are seeking a Senior Design Engineer that will help us develop leading edge fluidic product solutions for the Biotech market. This role works to understand customer application challenges, extract product requirements, and design electromechanical devices for precision fluid delivery. This role will act as a technical leader collaborating with diverse project teams through the product development process.

  • Ability to take concepts from ideas to functional prototypes for verification testing, document learning from research and testing, and evaluate intellectual property opportunities.

  • Investigates and remains current on new technology to generate new product ideas.

  • Works with product managers, sales, and customers to define new product requirements.

  • Designs precision mechanical components and assemblies.

  • Analyzes designs for precision performance, appropriate tolerances, and design for manufacture.

  • Ensures release to manufacturing documentation is reviewed, accurate, and complete

  • Comfortable leading and managing new product development projects using established procedures and project management tools as well as taking the role of Technical Lead for key customer projects.

  • Supports investigation, analysis and problem solving of quality items.

  • Communicates with external customers and outside suppliers/vendors to develop solutions.

  • Develops expertise on relevant IDEX Health and Science technologies and products.

  • Capable of succinct communication of technical information with diverse teams – orally, in written form, and via presentations.

  • Attends relevant trade shows and assists in the preparation of product demonstrations and substantiation of marketing claims.


  • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar degree.

  • Proven ability to design precision mechanical components and assemblies

  • Adept at using CAD software (SolidWorks) to create detailed models and drawings.

  • Experience applying mathematical and computational analysis to solve engineering problems, including use of modeling tools such as FEA, CFD, etc.

  • Demonstrated ability to complete tasks and effectively manage time to meet deadlines.

  • Proficiency in the use of business software tools (MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint) and a proven ability to quickly learn and use new software tools.

  • An established self-starter with the ability to work independently while supporting a culture of accountability, team orientation and a focus on successful outcomes.


  • Knowledge of various manufacturing processes including precision machining, injection molding, or extrusion.

  • Knowledge of engineering plastics and their applications.

  • Experience in the application of FEA and CFD to engineering problems as well as Design and Process FMEA

  • Experience with Design of Experiments (DOE) techniques preferred

  • Experience with fluid control and electro-mechanical devices (solenoid/rotary valves, pumps, sensors, test equipment).


  • General office area, engineering laboratory, and manufacturing facility. There is ability to work from home as business needs and projects allow.

  • Able to operate various types of test equipment and tools, perform experiments, build prototypes and complete work at a desk.

  • Able to travel (<10%) via plane/car/bus/train as required, domestic and international, and be comfortable traveling to locations where customs and cultures are unfamiliar.

  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds(I would change this [lower] to the heaviest piece of equipment we would regularly have to use; for occasional items help can be obtained – a reasonable accommodation. This is one of those things that can unknowingly turn people away), move within an office complex and outside in the field.

  • Vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, ability to adjust focus and visual acuity for reading a computer screen and handwritten/typewritten documents, and experiment observation.

  • Communicate via phone, computer and in-person situations.
