Finger Lakes Instrumentation (FLI) designs and manufacturing research-grade cooled CCD and sCMOS cameras and supporting accessories including filter wheels and focusers.

FLI is seeking a highly motivated,technically savvy individual capable of performing hands on electrical and mechanical production duties. Our ideal candidate will be comfortable learning all aspects of the manufacturing assembly process with a high degree of commitment and skill. We seek an experienced Technician accustomed to precision and a high degree of complexity.The position may be best described as a super-technician; someone that is capable of analytical thinking with a deep understanding of electronics and excellent mechanical aptitude. This role will report to Gregory Terrance and be a member of our 10-person manufacturing team.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Test cameras with a high degree of proficiency.

  • Build cameras with a high degree of proficiency.

  • Prepare / Solder camera PCBs according to schematics.

  • Scan PCB sets using an oscilloscope.

  • Ensure cameras are built and shipped according to the build sheets.

  • Meet or exceed shipment requirements reflected in monthly forecasts.

  • Report quality and production results on a weekly basis.

  • Ensures that RMA returns are processed in a timely manner.

  • Discuss camera electronics at a high level with Senior Electrical Engineer.

  • Understand, manage and improve cycle times.

  • Follow and improve on existing quality systems.

  • Drill down into first time through failures to improve FTT rates.

  • Willingness to perform production tasks as needed.

  • Train new employees.



  • Ability to use oscilloscope with a high degree of proficiency.

  • Ability to read and understand schematics.

  • Soldering skills including lead-free soldering.

  • Accurately communicate detailed information with co-workers.

  • Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel required.

  • Experience with File Maker is a plus.


  • Minimum requirement: Associates or 2-year technical degree. Bachelor’s degree in ElectricalEngineering Technology or equivalent technical schooling and workexperience is desired.

  • 5 years manufacturing experience

  • Proven experience in defining problems, collecting data, formulating a plan and providing a solution.

  • Strong teamwork skills required. We feel a solid team takes all of working together.

  • Actively involved in problem solving on a regular basis.

  • Must be prompt and dependable.

  • Attention to detail and care when handling highly valuable components and equipment.

  • Ability to lead by example.
