SUMMARY OF PRIMARY FUNCTION
The buyer/planner manages designated parts and services from an expenditure base of $20.0 to $25.0 million per year for materials and/or services to support the company's manufacturing operations. The buyer/planner is responsible for source selection and procurement functions directly associated with the company's needs for direct materials and services, fixed assets and tooling, and select production related materials and services. These products and services are to be secured at cost quality and at delivery competitive levels consistent with company policy and performance standards. The position is further responsible for the timely planning and scheduling of specified manufacturing cells as assigned within the manufacturing operations.
Initiates purchase orders for parts, services and/or special tools; arranges for submission and inspection of sample products as required.
Secures and analyzes quotations, negotiates prices and terms with suppliers, and recommends suppliers with respect to cost, quality and delivery competitiveness for assigned responsibilities.
Works closely with Liquid Controls strategic sourcing to advance enterprise-wide sourcing programs as appropriate to drive overall material productivity.
Studies market prices and trends, engineering developments, and manufacturing method improvements applicable to assigned responsibilities.
Interviews and confers with current and prospective suppliers to determine supply capabilities. Negotiates prices and delivery terms with guidance from Sourcing Specialist or Materials Manager for assigned responsibilities. .
Coordinates the planning of production schedules for the assigned products consistent with internal and external customer requirements.
Maintains the inventory control and planning parameters for the assigned products consistent with ERP system requirements.
Coordinates as appropriate quality matters and engineering changes/developments between company activities and suppliers.
Visits suppliers’ facilities to qualify them as new sources and assists in the resolution of production, design, quality and/or delivery problems.
Participates in all Continuous Improvement activities in assigned production and procurement areas to drive overall plant Lean Transformation.
Drives improvement in responsible areas that will result in attainment of goals for Supply

SKILLS AND/OR PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION
Prior experience as a Buyer and/or Planner.
Good working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing processes and techniques.
Proven negotiating skills.
Experience in fast paced changing manufacturing environment.
Strong ability to multitask, and meet deadlines with a strong desire to execute tasks with quality and a sense of urgency.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Knowledge of the written procedures, documents, and forms used to measure, analyze, report, and score functional metrics and supplier performance to stated requirements.
Microsoft Office Suite with excellent Excel and Access skills with demonstrated ability to analyze sources of data with minimal guidance.
JDE experience and MRP knowledge preferred.
EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION LEVEL, SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE, TRAINING, LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in business, finance or related field preferred or industrial technology.
Prior experience in procurement for manufacturing operations.
CPIM certification preferred.
Solid negotiating skills
Good foundation in Production Planning and Scheduling
Will perform special projects and duties as required or needed.
This person will have an understanding of Lean principles, Six Sigma, Kaizen, and JIT processes in an industrial environment and should be driven by the principles of continuous improvement.
