2ND SHIFT - 2:00PM - 10:30PM, M-F

SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES :

The Tool & Die Maker performs work on stamping dies and production tooling. The primary duty is to utilize tool and die making skills to contribute to manufacturing improvements in both existing manufacturing processes and new products. This position will interact with operations, engineering and maintenance on a daily basis to repair existing tooling and machinery as well as developing new tooling and processes.

REPORTING TO : Tool & Die Manager

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform and develop effective preventive maintenance on stamping dies and tooling utilizing blueprints, Solidworks drawings/models and precision instruments.

  • Troubleshoot production and prototype stamping dies and tooling by partnering with operations, maintenance and engineering.

  • Fit, assemble and document parts to make, repair or modify dies, jigs, gauges and tools utilizing both manual and electronic precision instruments, hand tools and machine tools.

  • Conduct test runs with completed stamping dies and tooling

  • Set up and operate machine shop equipment including CNC mills, EDM machines, CNC lathes, manual lathes, milling machines and surface grinders in order to machine parts and verifies conformance of machined parts to specifications.

  • Verify and document dimensions, alignments and clearances of finished dies, tooling and components for conformance to drawings and specifications utilizing manual and electronic measuring instruments.

  • Record work and document tooling repair history in CMMS software.

  • Build and modify spare parts as needed and communicate estimated completion times.

  • Partner with engineering, maintenance and operations on improvement projects, machine design changes, new equipment development and new product development.

  • Write CAM programs for CNC mills, CNC lathes and wire EDM machines.

  • Communicate with various levels of the organization both verbally and through e-mail of job and project time lines and statuses.

  • Identify continuous improvement opportunities both within the Tool & Die Department and other areas of the factory.

  • Assist in developing the team and other team members.

  • Support safe practices by carefully and consistently observing all safety rules while supporting peers to this end when necessary – i.e. lockout/tagout, machine guarding, crane and hoist use, etc.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each of the basic requirements satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

  • High School Diploma or GED and advanced technical school training or Tool & Die Journeyman

  • 3+ years of experience with stamping die repair and troubleshooting, engineering changes and new tooling builds

  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, technical instructions, codes, standards and specifications.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

  • Expert level troubleshooting ability with stamping dies and production tooling.

  • Expert level operation and troubleshooting of CNC machines and machining operations.

  • Knowledge of progressive dies and metal forming operations.

  • Experience with Esprit and/or CAMWorks software.

  • Experience working with CMMS (computerized maintenance management software) to document work and asset history.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.).

  • Knowledge of good manufacturing practices.

  • Working knowledge of various metals, lubricants and industrial materials.

Physical Demands:

  • Time divided between standing and walking.

  • Lifting requirements range from less than 10 lbs. up to 400 lbs. Manual lifting could reach to company maximum of 50 lbs. Material handling equipment is available for heavy lifting.

Work Environment:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee works near moving, mechanical parts approximately 90% of the time.

  • There is exposure to loud noise approximately 90% of the time. Ear protection is furnished and mandatory.

  • There is exposure to vibration at least 60% of the day.

Mental/Visual Demands:

  • Close vision is necessary for parts inspection.

  • Peripheral vision is necessary to monitor both the die and the feeder.

  • Distance vision is necessary to monitor more than one machine at a time.

  • Close listening skills to hear variations in machine noise to alert operator of a problem.

  • Must be constantly alert to machine operation.

Total Rewards

The compensation range for this position is $50,000.00 - $75,000.00, depending on experience. This position may be eligible for performance based bonus plan.
