Position Summary:

The Manufacturing Engineering Manager is responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining a robust production technology strategy for the Crawfordsville facility. Responsibilities of this position include the development and successful implementation of CAPEX investment plans that are aligned with our long-term business strategy while being focused on automation, operational improvements and delivering process capability. Lead the Manufacturing Engineering function and work in collaboration with the Continuous Improvement Manager to drive key operational improvements and implement Lean Manufacturing concepts throughout our manufacturing operations. Successful candidates for this position will have a history of working collaboratively across various business functions to develop business plans for investment opportunities. This position requires a high level of demonstrated leadership skills and technical knowledge.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Identify key and core technologies for the business aligned with our growth strategy.

  • Develop and execute both short- and long-term capital investment plans for the Crawfordsville operation.

  • Research and develop business cases for investments in key manufacturing technologies that allows for the successful execution of our business strategies.

  • Review, develop, and maintain production standards including product routings, work instructions and procedures.

  • Improve and advance the development of Manufacturing Engineering processes across the plant.

  • Develop and execute an automation strategy that focuses on improving Safety and Productivity.

  • Contribute to the management and fulfillment of plant KPIs regarding Safety, DPLH, OEE, Quality, OTD.

  • Working with Plant Production and Safety to develop better methods to reduce the risk of injury.

  • Ensure product quality through proper equipment / tooling selection, validation, and maintenance.

  • Play a key role in the Operations leadership team, helping to implement the operations strategy that will meet the requirements of our stakeholders and drive operational excellence.

  • Responsible for defining required resource levels and for developing a flexible / cross-trained Manufacturing Engineering team.

  • Provides leadership and direction for the Manufacturing Engineering staff (8 - 10 employees).

  • Collaborating with supervisory staff on day-to-day operations in order to maximize equipment uptime and utilization.

  • Responsible to manage and forecast cost center budgets related to job function.

  • Accountable for annual goal setting and performance reviews of direct reports.

  • Develop plans to ensure all measures necessary are taken to deliver key results monthly and locating the necessary resources to deliver all objectives on an annual basis.

  • Critically analyze performance indicators and data in order to identify areas for improvement.

  • Develop, resource, and implement project plans to ensure necessary improvements and projects are implemented within scope, on time and to planned budget.

  • Co-lead Rapid Improvement Events (RIE)/Continuous Improvement project teams. Encourage personnel to become trained and to actively participate in company initiatives.

  • Perform work, promote teamwork and communicate in conjunction with our culture and corporate standards (Safety/Environmental, Quality, Continuous Improvement, 8020, etc.).

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to present views in a clear, concise and persuasive way, both verbally and in writing.

  • Strong interpersonal skills that demonstrate intellectual and emotional intelligence to build credible working relationships at all levels of the organization.

  • Strong servant leadership, organizational, and planning skills that demonstrate leading and motivating people to achieve individual, team and project results.

  • Ability to develop employees through experiences, coaching and training.

  • Experience in implementing 8020 and Lean Manufacturing techniques.

  • Experience with implementing automation (including robotics) into the production environment.

  • Familiar working with some or all the following manufacturing processes: Plastic Injection Molding, CNC Machining (Milling, Drilling, Turning), Assembly & Test, and Packaging.

  • Proficiency with computer applications such as Microsoft Office™ (Excel, Word, Access, Power Point, Project, etc.), ERP systems (JD Edwards preferred), and Minitab.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering, Industrial Technology, Mechanical Engineering or related field (Master’s Degree preferred). An equivalent combination of education and work experience maybe considered.

  • 10+ years of experience in Manufacturing Engineering in an environment where some or all the following processes are performed: plastic injection molding, CNC machining, assembly and testing.

  • 5 years minimum experience in a management / leadership role.

  • 3+ years of work experience with Lean Manufacturing Techniques

  • Project Management training / certification (preferred)

  • Strong Business Management skills in the areas of Planning, Budgeting, Leading & Developing Others, Presenting and Communicating Information, Delivering Results, Meeting Customer Expectations, Change Management, Business Transformation.

  • Travel requirement <15%
