IDEX Process Engineer in Boulder, Colorado

Based in Boulder Colorado— Advanced Thin Films (ATF) develops and manufactures high-performance optical components generally for laser markets that are setting the standard for applications and analytical instrumentation. ATF is a growing company, with revenue from both the volume OEM sales of tailored products and from the sales of standard products to end-users. Our optical components are set apart by their state-of-the-art performance and reliability.

The Process Engineer works with all Special Project Team members to develop, optimize, implement, train and document processes.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Identify project requirements, including raw material, human and equipment resources and create project timelines for under developed processes

  • Communicate status on timelines internally and externally

  • Serve as process mapping expert for the rest of the Special Project engineers

  • Lead process mapping of standard processes

  • Document standard processes for entire manufacture line

  • Determine critical parameters for process control given end requirements

  • Creates metrics to track process capability and improvement

  • Identifies, recommends and drives process improvements

  • Responsible for process yields

  • Drives root cause and corrective actions

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Demonstrate exceptional initiative in seeking out problems and solutions of all sizes

  • Work effectively with minimal supervision

  • Read and understand a variety of job-related instructions and documents, including Engineering Drawings

  • Collect, compile and understand basic mathematical calculations and statistical data

  • Implement solutions based on collected statistical data

  • Establishes and adheres to project schedules

  • Develop, organize, prioritize, and manage projects and time

  • Document processes for communication and training

  • Demonstrate and practice a detail-oriented approach to work

  • Identify, research and resolve issues

  • Work well with time and production limitations

  • Acquire substantial knowledge of manufacturing processes, procedures and products

  • Demonstrate strong analytical and problem solving skills

  • Demonstrate knowledge and experience with optical test equipment

  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of a variety of database or process software

  • Demonstrate mechanical skill

  • Work with chemicals

  • Train employees

  • Working proficiency in Solidworks or other 3D CAD system

  • Utilize statistical software for documentation and analysis, Minitab or other system

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Operate computerized equipment and perform calculations

  • Bend as is necessary for sitting, using computers, using the telephone, and computer mouse

  • Demonstrate eye-hand coordination

  • Operate testing and measuring equipment

  • Bend as is necessary for lifting from waist to operate testing equipment

  • Apply force to adjust and operate testing equipment, turn knobs and cranks

  • Manipulate fragile parts into and out of equipment to measure size and shape

  • Grasp objects in order to turn, wipe, adjust instrumentation and safely use sharp instruments

  • Twist and turn wrists and forearms to perform inspection of optics and to operate testing equipment and computer

  • Bend at the neck to perform inspection and testing of optics and related equipment

CREDENTIALS AND EXPERIENCE

  • B.S. or higher in Industrial/Manufacturing Engineering or related field or the equivalence in work experience.

  • Four or more years experience in the field of manufacturing process engineering. Familiar with using statistical process control or similar methods.

  • Six Sigma Green or Black belt preferred

  • Process flow mapping experience

  • PFMEA experience

  • Control plan development experience

  • Measurement system analysis experience

  • Process, machine/system capability study experience

  • Statistical process control implementation experience

PHYSICAL CLASSIFICATION OF JOB

  • Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

This job position requires compliance with ITAR Regulations. Therefore, all employees working in this capacity must meet citizenship status. Per the Advanced Thin Films Export Controls Policy and Procedure, the employee must be a U.S. Citizen or a U.S. Permanent Resident.
