Based in Boulder Colorado— Advanced Thin Films (ATF) develops and manufactures high-performance optical components generally for laser markets that are setting the standard for applications and analytical instrumentation. ATF is a growing company, with revenue from both the volume OEM sales of tailored products and from the sales of standard products to end-users. Our optical components are set apart by their state-of-the-art performance and reliability.
The Fabrication Technician will have significant exposure to grinding and polishing of optical components, including crystal fabrication.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Blocking of glass/silicon/ceramic materials
Machining (grinding, lapping and polishing) of glass/silicon/ceramic materials on automated and manual equipment
High precision optics metrology (interferometry, optical part characterization)
Ability to grind and polish to micron level thicknesses while holding arcsecond wedge.
Ability to read, follow and understand procedures
Work with engineering to develop processes and process documentation
Measure and document process variables
Cleaning and visual inspection of optical components.
Proper handling and packaging of critical and fragile optical components.
Maintain clean workcenter and documentation
Perform mathematical calculations, trigonometry and algebra level.
Procedure enforcement, maintenance, and cleaning of fabrication areas
Any other duties as assigned by the Fabrication Manager or his/her designate
Follows all safety training and guidelines
Strong work ethic and will not mind doing repetitive tasks
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Bend as is necessary for sitting, using computers, using the telephone, and computer mouse
Demonstrate eye-hand coordination
Operate testing and measuring equipment
Apply force to adjust and operate testing equipment, turn knobs and cranks
Manipulate fragile parts into and out of equipment
Grasp objects in order to turn, wipe, adjust instrumentation and safely use sharp instruments
Twist and turn wrists and forearms to perform inspection of optics and to operate microscopes and computer
Bend at the neck to perform inspection and testing of optics and related equipment
CREDENTIALS AND EXPERIENCE
A 2-year technical degree, or 3+ years relevant experience is desired
Direct experience with fabrication of optical components or cleaning of small parts desired
Experience with MIL-PRF-13830B desired
Strong written and oral communication skills
Basic understanding of computer hardware and interfaces
PHYSICAL CLASSIFICATION OF JOB
- Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
