Based in Boulder Colorado— Advanced Thin Films (ATF) develops and manufactures high-performance optical components generally for laser markets that are setting the standard for applications and analytical instrumentation. ATF is a growing company, with revenue from both the volume OEM sales of tailored products and from the sales of standard products to end-users. Our optical components are set apart by their state-of-the-art performance and reliability.
The Applications Engineer will be responsible for providing and enhancing mutual collaborative support between the sales and engineering teams at Advanced Thin Films (ATF) during the quote-to-production process. This person will have the proven technical capability for designing optical thin film interference coatings as well as designing fabrication plans for standard glass and crystal substrates. In addition, this person will be able to create technical drawings and interface with ATF vendors to procure timely and accurate quotes for raw materials and finished goods that ATF may need to purchase in support of our most critical customers and opportunities. They will be responsible for helping drive the continued growth of Advanced Thin Films via careful assessment of the feasibility and opportunity cost of pursuing certain requests at the expense of others.
Thin Film Engineering:
Be able to read and understand coating specifications in customer drawings. Be able to convert these specifications into requirements for a thin film coating design, then assess both the feasibility and manufacturing cost of such designs.
Understand customer coating needs to be able to define suitable exceptions that help improve product price and manufacturability without compromising end customer applications.
Be able to read and understanding optical fabrication specifications in customer drawings. Be able to convert these specifications into requirements for substrate fabrication, then assess both the feasibility and manufacturing cost of such substrates.
Understand customer fabrication needs to be able to define suitable exceptions that help improve product price and manufacturability without compromising end customer applications.
Rapidly convert customer specifications into manufacturing cost estimates that can be used to drive quoting process.
Deeply understand customer needs and end uses to ensure the proposed solutions best meet the customer’s requirements throughout the RFQ-to-production chain.
Be able to engage directly with customer engineering team to propose possible specification compromises and modifications, be able to advocate directly for ATF capabilities in order to best support customer’s needs.
Requires minimum bachelor's degree in a technical discipline (Physical Science or Engineering) with at least 4 years of experience in the market of optical specification or manufacturing.
