POSITION TITLE:

Product / Manufacturing Engineer

Value Stream Manager

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Product/Mfg. Engineer is responsible for completing assigned engineering projects in accordance with customer specifications or new product development. The person in this role will accomplish this by serving as a liaison between suppliers, manufacturing, and customers.

POSITION FOCUS:

  • Analyzes manufacturing statistical data, recognizing patterns and trends resulting in proactive product and process improvements

  • Assists suppliers with corrective actions and verify when necessary

  • Colllorbaoartes with other departments within the corporation to ensure cost reduction efforts are being addressed, implemented and sustained

  • Create and maintain the mechanism of providing visibility into the operating performance

  • Develop continuous improvement programs; allow the overall business to decrease cost through the reduction/elimination of variation; create a detailed manufacturing WI’s, SOP’s, and production reporting

  • Drives corrective action and provides customers with written reports

  • Follows up with customers to ensure satisfaction

  • Identify and lead organization-wide lean/continuous improvement initiatives

  • Lead contact and point person for on-site customer audits

  • Leads to the reduction of variation through design improvements with 80 customers

  • Maintain and improve current manufacturing processes and product designs to reduce variation and improve throughput

  • Manages and Leads Engineering Technicians to help achieve department goals

  • Monitors system to prevent overdue action requests

  • Observe testing methods and ensure adequate FPY, assist in the development and implementation of corrective action or product design improvements where necessary

  • Owns companywide corrective action process for internal and external product issues

  • Provides support by performing capability studies for uncontrolled processes

  • Serves as the primary contact for customer field complaints/requests

  • Take charge of the internal manufacturing process consultant for product groups, management, product development engineering, marketing, and sales

  • Team with process owners to resolve problems and implement long term solutions with their areas

  • Test methods to ensure product integrity after design, process, or supplier changes

  • Track improvements made and translate into measurable metrics

  • Work with manufacturing and engineering to create systems for measuring, analyzing, improving and controlling to ensure delivery of products and processes

  • Ability to lead and work well in a cross-functional team environment

  • Demonstrates experience and knowledge in the manufacturing and/or industrial industry

  • Demonstrates proficiency in oral and written communications

  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to multitask as needed

  • Exhibits commitment to continuous improvement

  • Knowledge of lean concepts (5s, Kaizen, Kanban)

  • Self-motivated; shows initiative, anticipates and prevent issues by executing advanced problem-solving skills

  • Must possess professional maturity and solid business judgment

  • Possess strong project management, organizational, and prioritization skills

  • Self-starter maintains high ethical standards

  • Strong ability to utilize statistical methods and implement new designs/processes to reduce variation

  • Knowledge of TPS philosophies, utilizing kaizen

  • Works well with customers and internal team members; can work well under pressure and time constraints to meet strict deadlines

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or Engineering Technology

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of demonstrated work experience in a manufacturing environment

  • Experience in a manufacturing environment preferred

  • Focus on customer service, mix model machining, and assembly is preferred

  • Trained in design for Six Sigma concepts preferred

  • Working knowledge of GD&T methodology
