The Mechanical Engineer leads engineering support for CVI’s fabrication of optical components. The role is responsible for leading the design and validation of new products, as well as providing process improvement and manufacturing engineering support for current products.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
As pertains to the Optical Components Department, including but not limited to
Lead engineering efforts pertaining to the design of products using New Product Development (NPD) stage gate processes, design of experiments (DOE), statistical analysis, and project planning.
Communicates directly with customers to identify product design needs to accelerate desired solutions.
Incorporates Design for Manufacturability and Design for Cost into design processes.
Leads and successfully completes Failure Mode Effect Analyses
Designs and develops fixtures, tools, prototypes and other production support items using SolidWorks
Leads root cause investigations.
Generates complete engineering fabrication documentation & bill of materials.
Supports mechanical designs through manufacturing, assembly and test.
Leads project meetings and provides input and updates.
Creates technical reports and presentations.
Collaborates with other engineers and professionals.
Other duties as assigned.

PROFESSIONAL, EDUCATIONAL, AND TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree or higher in optical engineer, mechanical engineering, applied physics, or equivalent field.
Working proficiency in Solidworks or other 3D CAD system.
Ability to read and understand a variety of job-related instructions and documents, including engineering drawings.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks both of similar and varying priority.
5+ years’ experience in the field of high-tech manufacturing, ideally in a related field to optics or optical coatings.
Demonstrated experience with New Product Development (NPD) stage gate processes, design of experiments (DOE), statistical analysis, and project planning.
Statistical data collection, analysis, and solution implementation experience.
Six Sigma Green or Black belt.
Process flow, FMEA, and/or control plan development experience.
Working knowledge of GD&T per ISO standards.
Experienced in design failure root cause investigations.
Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems a plus.
Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Manipulate optics into and out of fixtures, tools and carriers.
Efficiently transport optics and mechanical components and subsystems to and from the necessary departments.
Lift optics for inspecting, cleaning, testing and packaging (up to 20 lb.).
Bend as is necessary for lifting from waist, knees, and neck to operate related equipment.
Perform legible written communication.
Work intermittently in a cleanroom environment.
This position requires compliance with ITAR Regulations; this person must be a U.S. Citizen or a U.S. Permanent Resident.
