POSITION SUMMARY
CVI Laser Optics manufactures optical and optomechanical components and assemblies. This position will be responsible for design, develop, and test of electronic hardware, firmware, and software used in testing and manufacturing of CVI’s diverse product offerings. This is a hands-on role and requires focus and ability to prioritize competing tasks in support of production. The right candidate will have a clear desire to succeed and be effective working in a fast-paced environment. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Designs, develops, tests, reviews, and updates existing electronic systems. These duties apply to both existing tools and capabilities as well as for new product development efforts.
Creates user interfaces and data collection tools for new and existing systems.
Provides procedural documentation, drawings and specifications to inform others on how to fabricate, construct, assemble and maintain newly developed and revised products (both hardware and software).
Troubleshoots, determines root-case and addresses electronics issues or problems.
Identifies opportunities for improvement, recommends and leads research and modification projects.
Creates and executes against designs of experiments and other tests to verify performance of new or existing systems or software.
Ensures changes in products/production are effectively communicated to all affected and follow change control process.
Provides engineering support to production areas.
Trains technicians to operate new or updated equipment and collect measurements.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Engineering

PROFESSIONAL, EDUCATIONAL AND TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
REQUIRED
Bachelor’s degree in electronics engineering, applied physics, or equivalent field
Experience with firmware/software development for board-level and/or systems-level design
Experience in hardware/firmware design and troubleshooting
Knowledge of FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) and/or PLC (programmable logic controller) programming and processing
Electrical schematic and printed circuit board (PCB) design experience
Experience in scientific programming (such as LabView, Python, MATLAB, or equivalents) for system control and user interface development
Demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple tasks both of similar and varying priority.
PREFERRED
Master’s degree or higher or 5+ years’ experience.
Demonstrated experience with design of experiments (DOE) and statistical analysis.
Project planning, project management, and stage gate process experience.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Operate computerized equipment and perform calculations
Bend as is necessary for sitting, using computers, using the telephone, and computer mouse
Demonstrate eye-hand coordination
Operate testing and measuring equipment
Bend as is necessary for lifting from waist to operate testing equipment
Apply force to adjust and operate testing equipment, turn knobs and cranks
Manipulate fragile parts into and out of equipment to measure size and shape
Grasp objects in order to turn, wipe, adjust instrumentation and safely use sharp instruments
Twist and turn wrists and forearms to perform inspection of optics and to operate testing equipment and computer
Bend at the neck to perform inspection and testing of optics and related equipment
Ability to work in a Class 1000 and/or airborne molecular contamination (AMC) clean room environment wearing appropriate PPE.
PHYSICAL CLASSIFICATION OF JOB
Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
