SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES :

Provide leadership for a high performance cross functional engineering team involved in both sustaining engineering and new product development for medium and heavy truck electronics.

REPORTS TO (Title) : Director of Engineering

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee the development of cutting-edge, cost-effective hardware and software solutions for both new and existing products in a fast-paced environment.

  • Utilize the FSG (fire safety group) development tollgate process and appropriate project planning tools.

  • Work collaboratively with local and remote teams to create solutions that meet industry standards and exceed customer expectations.

  • Establish and review technical solutions by leading technical teams in problem resolution / brainstorming activities / product development.

  • Allocate appropriate engineering resources to meet obligations.

  • Oversee the entire product development lifecycle, ensuring projects are completed on-time, within budget, and meet quality standards.

  • Provide and maintain technical direction, growth, and expertise of the electronics controls engineering team.

  • Provide focus for raising technical excellence, including standards and methods.

  • Act as a technical specialist in a review capacity, ensuring that proposed solutions have considered all relevant technologies and techniques within the bounds of the requirements.

  • Monitor and control product compliance and ensure that designs meet relevant safety and certification requirements.

  • Develop a proficient resource base to maximize engineering effectiveness.

  • Define, evaluate and select engineering tools across all disciplines in conjunction with other senior staff.

  • Ensure effective co-ordination with other Management.

  • Develop external links between the Company and other sites, universities and research houses to ensure latest thinking is available for application into our products.

  • Create a team-working environment for employees to achieve job satisfaction by establishing, encouraging and sustaining a process of regular and clear communications, target setting based on KPI's, individual performance management and feedback and maximize the contribution of all engineering staff.

  • Manage performance and ongoing development of direct reports.

  • Perform other related duties as defined.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND REQUIRED ABILITIES

  • Broad knowledge of electronic, electrical, and related mechanical engineering best practice, manufacturing, quality assurance and finance as they affect engineering and engineering outputs.

  • Leadership: a demonstrated ability to lead and motivate engineers to get results.

  • Planning: an ability to think ahead and plan over a 1-2 year time span.

  • Management: the ability to organize and manage multiple priorities.

  • Problem analysis and problem resolution at both a strategic and functional level.

  • Technical skills in engineering management, quality assurance and costing.

  • Strong project management skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Ability to develop high performance teams.

  • Ideal candidate will have a strong background in automotive electronics, a deep understanding of both hardware and software solutions and proven team building experience.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering.

  • Proven team leadership background in electrical engineering and electronic product engineering.

  • Experience with multi-disciplined design team linked to contract manufacturers.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Perform general office functions.

  • Visual acuity needed for close detail work and computer use.

  • General manufacturing, warehouse and office environment.
